So as I've mentioned before the Ranch is closing down in January for 3 months to finish the renovations they've just started last week. This means comes January I'm basically out of a job.
There's a new hotel opening in December/January which I currently have a interview for tomorrow. While all this is great in that it looks like most likely I'll have a job to go to when my current one kicks me out on my butt, I have thinking lately about other opportunities this closure presents me with.
Because I'm being let go I also get a big check so that management can feel better about getting rid of all their loyal employees. Suddenly I will have a big check and no obligations. What could I do with this starting in January.......
I could go to New Zealand.
I mean I haven't been on a real vacation in a long time. I've been home. I've been to visit family, but I haven't really had the opportunity to take a lot of time off and just go somewhere new. Some place different. Some place that involves a long plane ride and seeing new things.
I'm not crazy right? I mean this seems like a great opportunity to go on vacation right? Some people are looking at me like "You want to go where for a whole month and spend how much money?!" But what else am I going to do? Start working at another job with no vacation time in sight? With no opportunity to take some real time off? The hotels are still going to be here when I come back.
So unless this new hotel offers me some unbelievable opportunity....I think I'm going to New Zealand. And if I can't get anyone to go with me I will go on my own.
Southern Hemisphere here I come.
Well hello out there internet land. It has been awhile since I did an entry. I was mainly writing to update everyone on my goings on since a lot of things have taken place that I've told one or two people to, but avoided talking about in detail.
#1: I've moved. I'm now living in downtown Santa Barbara. Still in the ghetto (well as ghetto like as it gets in SB) with the same roommates. The difference? My room is twice as big as it was and we have 4 rooms in the house instead of three and there is a great big old backyard for all the animals.
#2: I got promoted at work. I am now Front Desk Supervisor. This is not as impressive as it sounds as they basically only offered it to me because everyone else is jumping ship around here. I'm even going to start being manager on duty once a week because I'm cheaper than giving more money to one of the real managers, but hey, whatever I can put on my resume.
#3: Everyone is jumping ship at work because we have started a renovation and the place is dead. I think we currently have 6 people in house. The place will also be closing in January for 3 months as they are going to be doing some work that will be too noisy to have guests around. This basically means I'm out of a job come January. So youi see the promotion good on paper sucks in reality.
#4: I'm applying to a new hotel opening in Santa Barbara in December. They actually just emailed me today. I'm a bit nervous about it though as it may or may not be a good opportunity. Good if I stay in the same type of position I have right now. Bad if I have to take a step back down. All in all everything is up in the air.
So this is what is up with me and this is why I haven't updated in a while. Avoidance at its best. That and being extremely busy at work until labor day and then having to move short notice. I'm a little stressed as it feels like everything in my life is being tossed around like a salad. I've realized I'm not really good with change. I'm trying to work on it, but as always it makes me nervous.
Anyways once I get my room decorated I'll post some pictures of my old room and my new room so you can all get an idea of how I've moved up in the world. I'll also keep you all updated on the job interview. Wish me luck.
