Ahh the Munchkins

So one week has passed while I toiled away at Sequoia Elementary with a bunch of 9 year olds and this is what my experience boils down to:

1. Kids have germs
2. Kids like to share germs
3. Nuala does not like to share germs but somehow got germs anyways
4. Nuala is sick
5. Nuala is still know as the twin from Melo's Pizza. (She's not my twin. Is she older then? No I'm older)
6. Children and adults alike still think I'm under 20.
7. I taught a handwriting lesson even though I suck at handwriting and I haven't written in cursive since 6th grade. Ironic? I think so. My lesson will probably be the most useless thing they ever learn, that is if they even remember what I said.
8. Despite al this I really like working with kids and being in a classroom all day. Go figure.

Save the Kitties!

I got this message from ARF (Animal Rescue Foundation) today. Just thought I would spread the word to the maybe now 4 people who read my site.

We need your help. Our cat adoptions are down this year and we are very concerned about the fact that our kittens are getting older and losing their window of opportunity for adoption. We are doing a Mobile Adoption at Downtown Pleasant Hill , Saturday, Sept. 28th from 12-3. PLEASE help us promote this Mobile adoption. Tell your friends, your co-workers and anyone else you can think of who may be considering adding a cat to their family.

Every cat or kitten is fixed, vaccinated, tested and microchipped.

I am sorely tempted to get a kitten for myself, but I don't think my current cat would enjoy it. He tolerated a dog, but another cat? I think he's too territorial for that. So sad since he's so lonely all day by himself. I think it would be good for him. I'm sure he would see it as a personal attack on his status in the house. sigh. A kitty could be so much fun too.

Anyways YOU, not me, go get a kitty. Give it a home. Make it a happy little fur ball. It'll adore you forever.

Fun with Chemicals and other random facts

So yesterday I got to process my own film. How exciting is that? Pretty damn exciting I'll have you know. I got to play with chemicals and stand in the pitch dark with lots of people while I attempted to thread the film through this little round thing and then put in in a canister. Fun with scissors in the dark is all I have to say. And all this for a roll of pictures of cotton. Imagine how much cooler it will be when it's actually interesting pictures.

Anyways I didn't do to badly with teacher supervision. We'll find out what happens when I attempt to do it on my own later this week. Let's hope I don't mess up the roll of interesting pictures.

On a complete different note you'll notice I've updated my "What I'm Reading" section. I'm now reading Daugter of the Forest and hell if it isn't based on the Irish myth The Children of Lir where one of the main characters is named NUALA (or Fionnuala which is the same thing). Now in this book do they keep that original name and have the girl named Nuala. NO. They name her Sorcha. Which means bright and light and the English version of the name is Sarah. What the fuck?! It almost makes me not want to read it. Almost. (It's kinda like my refusal to watch Eyes Wide Shut becasue they say my name wrong. Tom Cruise says my name wrong! Damn Stanley Kubrick.) But then again maybe it's not based on the same myth, but they have an awful bloody lot in common.

And one random comment. On my entry about Cabo I forgot to mention that everyone thought Sumit and I were on our honeymoon. Now that was weird. Sumit says it's now the only honeymoon I get. If we get married he is under no obligation as we've already done the honeymoon thing and I said, "Yea whatever" (No one denies me a mandatory/traditional vacation. No one.)

La Boheme Baz Style

ent_boheme15.jpg

It seems I am in a theatre funk this week. My sister had told me about this months ago but I just found out the dates. Baz Lurmann is directing La Boheme and its world permiere (actually that's a lie, it's the American premiere as it was produced in Sydney already) is in San Francisco October 1st - November 10th at the Curran Theatre. After this it will move to New York to be performed on Broadway.

So I will be off to see this too on top of the ballet! (see Sept 11) And my Mom, cause she's curious. She likes Baz. Anyone else want to come? Come on it will be fun. (she says as if trying to lure a dog into a bath it KNOWS won't be fun) There'll be singing, as in the opera kind. In Italian no less. With subtitles. (Not that they're all that exciting and how they are incorporated I do not know, but don't you want to find out?) So come one! Come all! Come oogle at the pretty people with me. You know you want to.

Petit Jete, Petit Jete, Pirouette, Sauter!

So today at work I just received a booklet which lists all of the Performances that will be taking place on campus for the year and guess what's coming, The Bolshoi Ballet who will perform Swan Lake at Zellerbach Hall in November. I'm so excited. I've always loved ballet and since I took a dance appreciation class to fill in my units before I graduated, I've admired it even more because I actually understand all the different things that go into a ballet. My favorite part being the prima donnas. Oh you egotistical ballerinas you. Anyways if anyone is interested in seeing it with me let me know, I'm going either way. It's being performed by the Russians so YOU know its got to be good. Skinny little Russian ballerinas.

Also performing/being performed at Berkeley this year is:
Medea
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre (who will be performing Ailey's famous Revelations)
Romeo & Juliet Performed by the Stuttgart Ballet.
Cirque Eloize

There's a whole lot more of events of course but these are the ones I'd like to see.

Back from Cabo

118-1812_IMG.JPG

So obviously I am back from Cabo but not back in the Bay Area. I'm still happily in Sumit's apartment not wanting to get in my car and drive the five hours home so I thought I'd dwell on Cabo instead and not the drive towards the dreaded work...ughhh work.

So Cabo was soooo much fun. I would say that the only bad part was that we were in San Jose del Cabo which is like 40 minutes on a hot crowded bus from Cabo San Lucas where all the fun is, or 30 minutes in an air conditioned taxi which costs $40 one way. That was sucky but then again the hotel was worth it because the beach was deserted and the pool was nice and we meet some kick ass guys who were the activities directors. And can I mention they were hot? (Sorry Sumit but you said so yourself. You said they probably got all the girls) Well Maricio and Oliver were awesome guys and were nice enough to take us out down to Cabo one night and show us all the hot spots, and split the cab fare. We went to Cabo Wabo for a drink, which is the place that Sammy Hagar owns and then we went down to El Squid Roe where we all proceeded to get VERY drunk doing tequila shots and drinking too much beer. I'm still happy to report however that I do not have a tequila horror story. I did not take it that far.

We got back late, around 4am and were very drunk, which is fun, however the poor boys had to get up at 9:00 the next morning to take care of a birthday party with about 30 screaming children. Sumit and I didn't manage to get up until 11:00 and we were still hungover so I don't know how the boys did it. We eventually made it out to the pool area and laughed at them as we watched them do activity after activity with the children.

That day we did nothing, too hung over although we did attempt a misguided venture into Cabo San Lucas but the heat and the rocking bus did us in and we ended up just turning around. Stupid hungover us.

We finally did manage to see some sights. We took a boat out to see the famous arch and rock formations in Cabo. We never did manage to go snorkeling. sigh. Next time. The weather was HOT. If we just stood still in the shade it was fine but as soon as you started walking you were a ball of sweat. So we just sat by the pool or on the beach or took a nap and soaked up the atmosphere.

The only thing that REALLY bothered me was when we did manage to make it out to Cabo and do some shopping and walking everyone attacks you asking you to buy something and they're friggin aggressive. I hate that shit. Oh but did I mention I got my hair braided, and I of course sunburned. Damn me. Overall it was mucho fun and to anyone who is really interested I'll tell you more details. And now some pictures:

Better late than never! These are the pictures that Sumit took on the campout in Big Sur. Sorry none of Michele and Kristen. You guys left too EARLY! (or we came too late...hee hee) Suspiciously there are none of Kimmy either. Oh well next campout. Personally I love the Marshmallow picture.....To bad there weren't more.
