Halloween

Now I love Halloween, but I mainly love it for

1. the candy
2. all the kiddies dressed up
3. the pumpkin carving
4. the pumkin baking treats

I do not like having to come up with a costume. And here I thought I had gotten away without having to have one this year as I have pottery class that night and cannot possibly go out to SF for the big Castro fest.

Sumit has foiled my plans. I'm going down to SB this weekend and he is taking me to a Halloween Party. Now I have to scrounge a costume at the last minute. I'm probably going to do something with my wings, that I barely get to use, but I have to find a slip like costume first. Any ideas besides scrounging the used clothing stores? Any ideas for extra touches? I'm going to get glitter so that I at least have fairy dust, but any other ideas?

Sumit bought this costume for himself, in adult size of course. He is very excited. I told him he needs to color his nose black like Mickey.

So but yes, I last minute girl needs help. If you can spare your time. It's not a big deal, but if you have some brilliant idea for me, then bring it on.

La Boheme and some other stuff

So I'm sure everyone saw Michele's entry about La Boheme and I just felt the need to reiterate what Michele said. It was unbelivable. Mainly the sets. They were just mind boggling. I mean if someone doesn't even like opera I would still tell them to go see it JUST for the sets and backdrops. WOW is the only way to describe it.

Between this and Moulin Rouge you can tell that Baz has a little obession going on over the bohemian period and Paris in general, and tragic love stories. It's amusing. Not that I'm complaining, but they billed Moulin Rouge as the greatest love story ever told (didn't they?) and now they are billing La Boheme as the greatest love story ever sung. Even some of the sets and ways they advertise for La Boheme is similar to Moulin Rouge. It's just interesting. I suppose that's what makes it a Baz production.

But anyways we went out to dinner with Charlotte who is the friend of my sister that got us 6th row CENTER seats. Thank you Ady and Charlotte. It's nice to have a sister in the know. Anyways Charlotte was a doll and gave us all the backstage gossip. Baz kissed her on the cheek a couple to times. And danced with her. Makes me semi jealous. She also told us about the girl who did the backdrops and how she's only 22! How jealous am I of her talents. SO JEALOUS. (You can see a picture of Charlotte if you go to the linked website go to CAST and then Ensemble. Her last name is Cohn)

But all in all it was a fun time for all and the singers were wonderful. They were no sets, but they were still great and made me cry at the end like they're supposed to. It was worth every penny. Go see it if you can. Which you probably can't, but you're missing out. I mean how often does a broadway show premiere in San Francisco? Not damn often. Take advantage while you can. Lord it over the New Yorkers that YOU saw it first. I will. (Course I suppose those damn Australians can lord over us they saw it 10 years ago. Damn them.)

On another completly different note....Jade sent me this and it was funny, so now I share it with you all. Go look at it.

Sloshball

So today I learned about a game called Sloshball. Bascially it's a baseball with a keg on second base. Apparently you can't go by 2nd base without slamming a beer and of course everyone is required to have a beer in their hands the whole game. If you all thought you were crazy playing baseball before image it after slamming a beer or two.

As I was looking for the rules of sloshball I came across an article from the UCSB newspaper. It reminded me of a game I had forgotten about which I think is an IV original: The Dog Shit Park Bike Races. Basically there are three people to a team. You are to complete 45 laps and 45 beers (between the three team mates) to win. Basically the team mates alternate laps slamming a beer once they finish each lap. I once saw part of these bike races on IVTV (IVTV is created by two grad students go around Isla Vista and tape the stupid things UCSB students do and then put in on cable access.) The grossness of this is unmatched. If contestants have to puke they must do it while on a bike. People were falling, bikes were too small, people were dressed funny for the even, beer and puke was everywhere and while it was very disgusting it was also somehow very funny. Ha ha that drunkard just feel off his puked on bike ha ha. Well alright right now it doesn't sound funny. But it was. Then. On tv. Live might not be so cool with the smell factor.

Why I'm writing about drinking games I don't know, but I just found it interesting and a strange phenomenon. I mean the lengths people will go to. Or should I say the things people come up with? My mind is boggled and amused. Maybe it's just because I've never played any of these games. Maybe I'm secretly fascinated. Maybe not, but here's a website with a whole bunch of drinking game options. They even have one for Better Off Dead. Oh how I love you John Cusak.

Wedding Pictures

bride.jpg

These are just some of the pictures Jen took with her digital camera. And can I mention that for some strange reason Kathleen calls Larry, "Pooh". Why exactly I can't remember, but amusing none the less. I officially declare them more sappy than anyone else I know, including me and Sumit. ANYWAYS:

The Wedding...dun dun dun!

So first there is a sad note. Before we arrived in Canada we found out that Sophie had to be put to sleep. She was really sick and was found with tumors and the vet encouraged my grandmother to put her down. I was a little upset but it hit Mom much harder. But don't feel too bad. Sophie had a very happy life as we all remember and lived a long one for a small dog. I was sad that I didn't get to say goodbye, but better that she wasn't in pain anymore.

So on to happier thoughts: The Wedding

The ceremony itself was very short. Kathleen was in tears as she said her vows making everyone else cry, but she looked beautiful. Once Jennifer puts the pictures up on the wedding site, I'll link so everyone can see the dress and all that fun stuff.

The reception: The food was good. All the cousins got stuck at the kids table with all the younger cousins and while that was fine because who else was going to watch the younger ones, it still irked me being the oldest. I mean you think 23 would be old enough to move up from the children's table.

The speeches made me cry like a fiend. Damn emotional people. It was nice though. The cousins irished danced. They're so good. They sure didn't quit at 13. oops. Well anyway they were fabulous and Stephanie (Ady's roomate) sang I'll take you home Kathleen, which is an Irish ballad and Falling by Alycia Keys. The room was silent while she sang. Everyone was so stunned. I mean not a peep out of anyone while she sang. It was a little weird, but later they all came up to her and told her how great she was so I guessed they liked it. My Uncle Jerome said he was scared to talk to her after that. He was being his silly self of course.

It was your normal wedding. When we first got there I got shouts of "I know who you are!" "The image! The complete image of your mother!" from all of Mom's cousins. And then they looked at Ady and said, "Much more like the French side." Genetics are weird. We're thought to be twins all the time, but I'm the image of my mother and my sister's the French side. People are weird But if ever there was a doubt that I'm my mother's daughter it is gone now.

The most shocking moment of the evening for me was hearing what my Uncle Shane had to say about me. Maybe I should explain my outfit first though. I was wearing a midlenght pink skirt with a red form fitting top and I had this big black glittery fake orchid in my hair. Now he's not really my uncle as he is Kathleen's dad but her parents are divorced. Anyways I had never met him and the last time my mother had seen him she was my age.

So I got into the receiving line after the ceremony and said hi to Kathleen and Larry and my aunt and then met Shane, explained I was Rosemary's daughter and said, " Nice to meet you." That was it. The extent of my conversation. Not once was the word "like" or "you know" mentioned.

Later on my mother tells me that Shane said I was a typical California girl. And I went "uhh okay, didn't think I was that California, but whatever I do live in California." Later I talk to my Aunt Paula and it seems he didn't say I was a California girl but a typical VALLEY GIRL! Me! A valley girl! I had no idea what to say. I mean did I look blond? Did I seem as if I wanted to say "like" or "you know" while tiping my head to the side and chewing gum? I didn't think so. Strange the way people see you, but apparently Shane has a gift for saying things to push people's buttons. And my Uncle Jerome never liked him too much so right there, he's got about a million strikes against him. I'm still boggled. Me? A valley girl? Who would have thunk it?

So but that was the wedding. I'll make sure to scan in some pictures that I took as well as link to Jen's.

Tales from the City

So I have returned from the great yonder known as the east coast. Here's the boring stuff recaped:

I took lots of pictures, walked through Central Park, went to the Met and saw lots of neat cultural arty things, got lots of whistles, thank yous, and general annoying comments as I walked down the street (drives me crazy. moronic men), did some shopping, got my nails done and played with kitties. Who are SO cute. I bought them a scratching post with cat nip in it and they went mad. (Pictures hopefully to follow once developed)

Now the more exciting stuff.....

My sister took me to the premiere of Comedy Central's first movie Porn 'n Chicken at Studio 54, and no you're not reading it wrong it's called PORN 'n Chicken not Pork. Anyways my sister works for a casting agency who had some people in the film so they got the good seats. And where were these good seats you ask? I'll tell you. They were the first two rows right next to all the people from the film as well as Kirsten Dunst, Julia Stiles, that boy from Dawson's Creek, who was only in a couple episodes last season, and whose name I can't for the life of me find, and Jake Gyllenhaal's sister Maggie (who is in the new movie Secretary)

Now why were all these fabulous people there you ask? Well Julia, Kirsten, and Maggie are all making the movie Mona Lisa Smile, starring Julia Roberts with the girl that Ady's casting agency represents, whose name I can't find either, but if you go to the Porn 'N Chicken site and scroll through the pictures she's the cute one with short hair sitting with the curly haired boy. Probably won't help but it was worth a shot.

Anyways it was very surreal to see people that are usually on your tv or movie screen. Kirsten was literally two feet away from me. I could have kicked her if I really wanted. Not that I wanted to, although she's so skinny if I had kicked her you probably would have heard bones break. Weird I tell you weird. There was free food and an open bar. What more could a girl ask for but free booze, food and stars to oogle at?

The next night my sister took me to see Hairspray as a birthday gift and man oh man were the seats FABULOUS. She got us 6th row orchestra. Yet again one of the people her agency represents is one of the leads in the show and he was nice enough to get her some good seats. His name is Corey Reynolds and he plays Seaweed in the show. Unfortunately he was sick the night we went so we didn't get to see him perform but it was a great show none the less.

After that we went to Don't tell Mama the piano bar where Stephanie Harwood, my sister's friend and roomate sings and works. My sister has about three men tied around her finger there who sing her whatever she wants. Two are of course gay but still it's like she has a personal live jukebox. Drinks flowed freely and I payed nothing thanks to my sisters connections. I would have given some money but no one asked me for some and we had left before I realized it. My sister assured me the wiaters/singers were taken care of though. Hopefully next time I go I'll have more money to spare.

It was great night. It was lots of fun with sing alongs and a man dressed as a piece of cheese with boobs. He called himself a representation of the finer things in life, food and sex. I kid you not. Also an old white woman, named Leona, with a white arfro literally 3 feet tall walked into the bar. It seems she's a regular, but I just had to shake my head and mumble to myself, "Only in New York." She sang a couple of numbers as well, it was to say the least interesting. Stephanie's a wonderful singer and sang some great songs. I didn't sleep that night and was very cranky when we hopped a flight at 7 am to Canada to go to Kathleen's wedding.

Anyways that's all for now as I have to get back to work. I'll try and scan some pictures when I get them and do another entry later on the wedding.

Long time no typing

Well it's been a while since I managed to blog. I've been a little frantic with all the forms I was filling out, and being sick, and preparing lessons for the kiddies and taking my photography class. I'm wiped out. Good thing I'm flying to New York this week. Ughhh! What was I thinking.

Well hopefully NY will be a little relaxing. Most of the time I'm going to be left to my own devices so I'm planning to take lots of pictures of the city, my sister and her roomies and the new kitties and visit the museums. I can't wait to be exposed to all sorts of culture. My sister is taking me to see Hairspray for my birthday which should be fun. She did tell me she was going to take me to the premiere of some new Comedy Central movie but I guess it's turning into a bigger thing than they expected and can't get me a ticket. Kirstin Dunst is going....oooooo. But that's ok as I think it would just make me extremely nervous.

The kiddos were fun this past week too. They were sweet on Friday as the made me a card and all expressed how sucky it was that I would not be around anymore. The truth is I would much rather play with them than go back to work, but oh well, as soon as I finish my Statement of Purpose I'll be able to apply and then hopefully one of these days I'll have my own class. It's shocking to me how much I liked it.

Anyways I'll go back to writing lots more when I get back from NY and I'm sure I'll have a lot more exciting things to relate.
