The last two weeks or so..

So I did get to see myself a hobbit. Sean Astin (AKA Sam) was at the Award Ceremony for Peter Jackson, however I did not catch him, sigh. It was actually a really fun night except for the whole waiting outside in the cold wind part. But we got into the theatre and were entertained by clips of all of Peter Jackson's movies as well as stories from behind the scenes. The best part of the evening was when they actually presented Jackson with the award as it was John Cleese who did the presenting. That man is just hilarious. In addition to the award he presented Jackson with a stuffed Kiwi (apparently a native bird of New Zealand). Jackson proceeded to then hold the Kiwi during his acceptance speech and did not seem to notice as he talked that as he moved his hands he was using the Kiwi as a sort of hand gesture reinforcement. Once everyone started laughing he noticed and put it down with a big thunk.

Another bizarre happening at the award was the presence of 12 year old girls all screaming for Sean Astin. While I teased about catching a hobbit I was never serious, but these girls seemed to be. However I think they were going about their stalking all wrong. Their screams let him know where they were and while he would take a quick picture with them he was off running as soon as possible. I also had a strange woman next to me who laughed and everything and anything. Peter Jackson says hello and she starts to giggle. It was the most annoying thing every. Every five seconds, "I was in New Zealand when...." GIGGLE! GIGGLE! On the annoyance scale it was a close second to when we went to see Romeo and Juliet and that one boy started sounding like he was hacking up a hairball to make the sound of the gun going off. Ughh that still annoys me even to think about it.

Besides the Jackson award I didn't do much at the film festival. I was really just too lazy to drag my butt downtown. I did however drag it there to see Top Hat. It was such a treat to see Fred and Ginger dancing on the big screen. I forgot how much I love those old movies. I also loved that as I was watching the credits at the beginning of the movie, one was "Gowns by..." I was so in love with that. It made it feel even more old hollywood by the fact they acknowledged the costume designer with "Gowns by..." Maybe now a days it would seem sexist, but I liked it and I think it should make a come back....

Besides that I've been trying to figure out what I'm going to do in New York for four days on my own. I've found a food tour of Greenwich Village that I'm excited about. I was going to try and get tickets to David Letterman, but of course he's not filming that week, or The Daily Show, but apparently they are sold out until freaking June. I feel that I should have planned this trip a little better. sigh.

And then there's been the build up to Valentine's Day. The truth is I didn't even know it was coming until Thursday when I had to do all the registration cards for the guests coming in over the weekend and I felt like I was going to puke. I mean FOUR weddings. FOUR! And one surprise proposal in the private dining room. I mean COME ON. Can we not come up with something more original than a wedding or proposal on Valentine's day.

So yesterday with everyone acting all crazy and people trying to check in early just because it was THEIR Valentine's day I was not a very nice person. Oh I was very nice to the guests but I wasn't giving an inch. Oh I'm sorry you're here at twelve, well unfortunately check in time is 3:00. No I'm sorry can't get you in any earlier. Go have lunch.... I also kept making comments to my co workers. They are not used to seeing me be a negative person. I think they were all shocked.

I don't think my problem is actually Valentine's day. I think that I was just really tired. I usually work the morning shift but I don't go to bed early enough so I was on day four of not enough sleep and I'm not a happy camper when I'm tired. I got to sleep in today and I'm working the late shift so hopefully by the time I get there everyone will already occupied with afternoon activities and then dinner and then god knows what else. As long as they don't bug me. I think my main problem is that they all think it's THEIR Valentine's day. Like the other 100 people on property aren't celebrating it as well...

Man I sound like the Scrooge of Valentine's day.....Oh well, if the shoe fits I'll wear it. hmpf. And on that note I'm going to get ready for work. I DO hope that all of you have a more enjoyable Valentine's day. Maybe if I get some coffee in me I'll actually be perky for the night....

dood. i would NEVER want to get married on Valentine's Day, and i'd rather not get proposed to then either...it's so cliche and unoriginal. even if romance is fleeting, it should at least be original. i'd much rather get married on an already established anniversary so you don't have to remember two days each year. and autumn. i like autumn weddings.

p.s. lucky you at the festival! wish i could have been there.

And the freaking weekend just keeps getting worse. This lady cancelled one night and wanted her money back. We haven't been refunding anyone who cancelled one of their nights, but she said she talked to a manager. So I asked the manager and he said he didn't. so I called my manager and she told me to offer to hold the deposit for their next day. The lady was not happy and completly bitched me out. So much for a quiet night. She of course got her money back. Some people are complete jerks.

from someone who also works in a hotel and also has incredibly ludicrous hours...such as now...i completely and totally sympathize with the crankiness factor. But you're coming to New York, and you can sleep in! and hang out with the puppy! and most importantly we can go out to eat...yummy.

You have no idea how much I am looking forward to this trip. I need a break. I think my crankiness also has to do with the fact that I haven't seen any familiar faces in a long time. The only danger here is that I want to spoil myself rotten. This could be very bad for my bank account.
